LONDON: WORLD CITY

 

London is a ‘world city’. More than 200 languages are spoken. The city’s distinctive neighbourhoods include world-renowned centres of learning, museums, galleries and stadiums.

   London is a global leader in art, architecture, construction, education, finance, food, heritage, humour, law, medicine, music, politics, science and sport. Every major world religion is represented.

   Over 30% of London’s estimated 7.75 million residents were born overseas. Tourists from all over the planet visit London’s historic and modern attractions. They enjoy pleasures cruises along the tidal River Thames and stroll along the river’s vibrant South Bank.

    London is marked as the centre of measured time across the world. Greenwich Mean Time was established in 1884 when an international conference decided the Prime Meridian (the line representing 0° longitude east and west) should run through the Royal Observatory at Greenwich in south-east London (See above photo). n
